I love color and working with my hands. I am a self-taught artist now working in two mediums, Polymer Clay and Pique Assiette Mosaic.

Recycled Shard Art:
I produce one of a kind mosaic art pieces using vintage and contemporary china, beads, shells, sea glass, pebbles, figurines, jewelry and other trinkets.
My pieces are mounted on reclaimed wood rescued from dumpsters on job sites ( with permission from the builders of course ! ).

My shard art gives a contemporary spin on traditional mosaic techniques that became popular in the Victorian era, giving new life to pieces that would otherwise be discarded.

The resulting pieces can be very random with an outrageous and whimsical flair, or precise and elegant and pretty. The one of a kind aspect of my art allows for a never ending flow of ideas, keeping me intrigued and ready to see how the next piece will develop.

I do not smash! I had cut each and every piece of china or pottery cutting out specific elements of the design be it edging or a flower or a bird or other eye catching bit. Through and eleven step process of cutting out the base, prepping, gluing, grouting and finishing, I merge different elements: mixing and matching pieces from all cultures, letting my eye and intuition guide me rather than a traditional formula of color composition. I use my shards and other bits as a painter uses his pallet.

I have always loved color and in the 90’s learned interior decorative paint techniques. From there I started doing juried craft shows selling my hand painted furniture.  I had always loved mosaics and became inspired by a piece I saw, believe it or not, in a dentist office. Eventually the mosaics became my focus.

I started exploring polymer clay several years ago , making my own tiles for mosaics. It gives me the opportunity to be even more expressive and I am very much looking forward to where this new exploration will take me.
